Conversion Formulas

GRAPHIC ARTS CONVERSION FORMULAS:
Enlargements/Reductions: new divided by old
Example: An object 5" wide requires an enlargement of 120% to make it
6" wide (6 ÷ 5 = 1.2 or 120%)
Reciprocal Percentages: 1 divided by percentage

Example: An object reduced 70% would require an enlargement of 142.9%
to restore it to the original size (1 ÷ .7 = 1.429 or 142.9%)
Fractional Inches to Points: divide inches by .0139
Example: .003" equals .216 points (.003" ÷ .0139)
Points to Fractional Inches: multiply points by .0139
Example: 1/4 point equals .0035" (.25 points x .0139 = .003475")
Square Feet from Inches: width in. x length in. ÷ 144
Example: A 20" x 40" sheet of paper is 5.5 square feet. (20 x 40 ÷ 144 = 5.5)

Millimeters to Inches: multiply by 0.03937
Inches to Millimeters: multiply by 25.4
Centimeters to Inches: multiply by 0.3937
Inches to Centimeters: multiply by 2.54
Meters to Feet: multiply by 3.2808
Feet to Meters: multiply by .3048
Square Meters to Square Feet: multiply by 10.76
Square Feet to Square Meters: multiply 0.0929
Fahrenheit to Celsius (Centigrade): deduct 32, multiply by 5, divide by 9
Celsius (Centigrade) to Fahrenheit: multiply by 9, divide by 5, add 32
Circumference of a Circle: pi x diameter (pi = 3.1416)
Area of a Circle: radius x radius x pi (pi = 3.1416)
Area of a Triangle: base x altitude ÷ 2
